The original Victorian weatherboard home was in reasonably good condition, considering the age of the home when the client purchased the property. It consisted of three bedrooms with generous proportions, one bathroom and lean-to kitchen/meals space with a large backyard.
The client had a young family and the brief was to create a spacious home that would adapt with the family as the children grew up. The house faced north on to John street. So this presented a challenge in creating a bright living area that could connect with the garden on the south side of the property.
The solution was an L shaped black box addition stretching along the east length of the site to allow for maximum solar access. This was designed to include a carport/covered entertaining area with laneway access, a guest bedroom + a main living area with dining & luxurious kitchen. Polished concrete floors married with large stacking sliding doors leading to the garden and 3.15m ceiling heights created a spacious and contemporary result. An in ground pool with large grassed area was included to complete the project. The clients were thrilled with the result and absolutely love living in their home and entertaining family and friends in the beautiful spaces.
