This heritage-listed bay side terrace home was in dire need of updating to provide comfortable accommodation for a family of five. The existing home was two bedrooms with one bathroom. The new project included a ground floor extension with main bedroom & ensuite, two living areas and powder room. The addition of a first floor contained two bedrooms, bathroom and kids play/hangout space. The existing façade could not be altered due to its heritage status. However the black zinc clad second storey addition, to the rear of the site provided a unique counterbalance to the red-brick home, updating the tired exterior with contemporary detail. Modern, fresh and spacious, this renovation balances the warmth of the historical property with the open and crisp atmosphere of a modern, functional family home.
